Theme: My flat. Grammar: there is\are constructions.  

The object of the lesson:

The educational object: to teach pupils to describe their own house and room, to enrich their vocabulary, practice the words in speech;

The development object: to develop communicative skills and abilities using various kind of activities, train in using construction there is\are.

The bringing up objects: to bring up feeling of love towards the family and to take care of their houses.

Method: work in groups

Equipments: flipcharts, presentation.

Procedure of the lesson:

Organization moment:

Good morning, children!

Good morning, Good morning,

Good morning, to you.

Good morning, dear teacher,

We are glad to see you!

Phonetic drill:  reading of the sound [æ]: map, cat, flat, bag, black, back, lamp, happy, apple, family, fat, rat.

Warm up:

Our big family,

Has a nice flat.

We live there happily,

With kitten and a cat.

Introduction of the theme:

What is this poem about?

Where do they live?

Ok. Today we are going to speak about flats.  Do different tasks and play games. At first you will divided into two groups. Each group has their own tasks. Lets start!

  1. Lexis: Lets remember what rooms are there in your flat and furniture your rooms are decorated with?
  2. Grammar: As you remember the grammar theme of our lesson today is there is\are constructions. And now we will do exercises using them. When do we use there is and when do we use there are?
  3. a) There ___ an armchair in the room.
  4. b) There ___ a washing machine in the kitchen.
  5. c) There___ beds in the bedroom.
  6. d) There ____ five rooms in my flat.
  7. e) There ____ pictures on the wall.
  8. f) There ____ flowers on the windowsill.
  9. Work with pictures. And now when we know exactly about the usage of there is and are describe rooms using there is\are constructions. What are there in rooms? Look at the blackboard and you can see the pictures for describing.
  10. The next task is to draw a picture of the room. Peaces of paper with the description of room are hanging on the blackboard. Members of each team one by one read the sentences and draw a picture. Each member reads only one sentence. Lets start!
  11. There is one window in the room. 2. There are two pictures on the wall. 3. There is a bed near the wall.
  12. There is a table with a telephone on it. 5. There is a sofa in opposite to bed and there is a cat on the sofa. 6. There is a carpet on the floor.
  13. Match the room with what usually happen in it.
  14. bedroom a) a place to cook
  15. living room b) a place to eat
  16. bathroom c) a place to sleep
  17. kitchen d) a place to relax, to watch TV
  18. dining room e) a place to work
  19. study f) a place to wash
  20. And now lets have a little rest. If you happy and you know it….
  21. Word search.

Each team must find 10 words on the topic.
